Kieninger 1713-57-01 Table Clock
Previously owned Mantle clock in ebony black with the movement and accessories in chrome - Westminster, Whittington and St. Michael chimes on nine chrome bells.
Previously Owned - Contemporary mantel clock in Ebony featuring a tourbillon mounted on the dial face.
In horology the tourbillon was developed around 1795 and patented by the French-Swiss watchmaker Abraham Louise Breguet on June 26, 1801; the tourbillon aims to counter the effects of gravity by mounting the escapement and the balance wheel in a rotating cage as this negates the effect of gravity when the timepiece (thus the escapement) is stuck in a one position. Originally an attempt to improve accuracy, tourbillions are still included in some expensive modern watches to demonstrate the watchmakers virtuosity.
The mechanism is usually exposed on the watch´s face to show it off. In this superb clock it provides an interesting feature on the dial face and also acts as seconds indicator hand.
